Saffron (lat. crocus) is a genus of perennial bulbotuberiferous herbaceous plant of iridaceae family. It is used as spice and dressing for dishes, and possesses healing properties. This valuable plant contributes to gastrointestinal digestion, regulation of gastrointestinal function, encourages nervous system with the help of its stimulating substances; it is applied in production of hypnotic agents, insomnia treatment due to mental strain, elimination of hepatic stones, vision reinatcement and improvement of cardiovascular system. Moreover, saffron is used in meals. For example, saffron color paints dishes providing them with pleasant taste and flavor, which improves the appetite.
