Red yeast rice

It is derived from rice by the way of fermentation with the so-called red yeast (Monascus purpureus). It has a direct inhibitory effect on the activity of HMG-CoA reductase, a key enzyme of cholesterol synthesis, reducing the total cholesterol level in persons with hyperlipidemia.
