Llilac chaste tree) - Vitex agnus castus (L) is a verbenaceae family plant. It grows from the Mediterranean to northern India. The fruits - stone fruits, seeds, leaves – are used for treatment purposes. Fruits contain fatty acid, essential oil (cineol, linolenic, pinene, sabinene), organic acids, fat-soluble flavones. Seeds contain flavonoids and irioid glycosides (agnuside). Leaves contain iridoids, flavonoids (casticin, 7-glucoside luteolin, orientin). Progesterone, 17-hydroxyprogesterone, androsteroidlon were found in the extract. It is included in the BAA R.S.28 plus.
